ASCOT RACE DAYS

The Rumba Foundation has hosted three prestige events at Ascot Race Course over the past few years. Each race day has attracted over 150 colleagues and friends to join us for a day of lavish entertainment and sport.

After a champagne reception at Ascot’s Pavilion Suite, guests enjoyed a three-course sit-down lunch, followed by a fundraising auction and an afternoon’s racing, viewed from the VIP seating area. Speeches were given by Rumba Trustees, Fiona and Jim Hindle and guests were entertained by inspirational speeches by ‘Supervet’ Professor Noel Fitzpatrick and Professor Nick Bacon. Noel is a world-class orthopaedic-neuro veterinary surgeon and Managing Director of Fitzpatrick Referrals and Nick is the Clinical Director of Fitzpatrick Referrals Oncology and Soft Tissue (FROST), and Chair in Surgical Oncology at the University of Surrey.
The funds raised from our Ascot Race Days totalled over £70,000, of which £50,000 was donated to the Fitzpatrick Referrals’ new oncology treatment centre in Guildford, to purchase the C-Arm X-ray equipment and protective lead gowns for the vets.

Like the Rumba Foundation, Noel Fitzpatrick is a supporter of the concept of One Health, which promotes shared research between vets and doctors to advance treatments which benefit both animals and humans. This is particularly relevant in the treatment of cancers in animals and humans and the team at FROST meet the oncologists from Royal Surrey Hospital on a monthly basis to exchange their findings and research.

“Jim and Fiona: That’s a fantastic achievement, well done to you both and to all of those that have so generously contributed to help achieve this.”
