C-arm fluoroscope
We've funded a C-arm fluoroscope that optimises the application of a medium that sharpens on-screen contrast.
-
Cell saver unit
Thanks to our supporters, we’ve funded a Cell Saver Unit. This life-saving device captures blood lost during complex operations and returns it back to the patient, helping the specialists with some of their most challenging cancer procedures.
-
Sharper diagnostic imaging
We’ve funded a CT Injector Pump which enhances diagnostic image quality during CT scanning by optimizing the application of a medium that sharpens on-screen contrast. This helps not only to detect the edge of tumours more accurately, but also to identify tiny deposits of tumour elsewhere in the body.

Keeping pets happy during treatment
When our pets receive cancer treatment it can cause side-effects that affect their quality of life. For both the owners and their pets this can be distressing especially as we cannot ask our pets how they are feeling. We’ve developed a questionnaire for dogs to enable routine symptom and quality of life monitoring by owners. In the future, we will develop a similar questionnaire for cats and build an app to allow for real time monitoring by veterinary staff.

Using AI to better diagnose soft-tissue cancer
Canine soft tissue sarcomas account for 15% of all tumours located on the skin or in the fatty-tissue layer underneath. They are diagnosed through taking a biopsy and looking at the cells on a slide under a microscope with a variety of factors enabling the vet to grade the tumour. This is very important in determining prognosis and subsequent treatments but there are discrepancies. By using Artificial Intelligence (AI), we can ‘teach’ a computer to grade the tumours from the digital slides and a recent trial showed accuracy of 92.7%. In the future, using AI could lead to earlier diagnosis and better outcomes for those pets that develop these types of cancers.
