Everesting Challenge

EVERESTING CHALLENGE

On 17 June 2017, Robin Reynolds embarked on his Everesting Cycle Challenge, raising money for The Rumba Foundation and two other charities – all three supporting pioneering work in cancer treatment. A cat-lover himself, he was inspired by our fundraising mission.

Robin’s challenge was to ride his bike up The Mount in Guildford, Surrey. This area of natural beauty, a mile from Guildford’s town centre, is reputed to be the oldest road in England, marking the end of the Hog’s Back – a chalk ridge between Farnham and Guildford. And as its name suggests, The Mount is very steep!
Robin didn’t just cycle up the Mount once; he made no fewer than 146 ascents, straining muscle and sinew against a gradient of 11-12%. Cycling for over 24 hours on what was the hottest day of the year to date, he covered a total distance of 160 km – 80 of which were uphill. He also surpassed the height of Mt Everest (just!).

The Rumba Foundation was delighted to receive £3,300 at the end of Robin’s mammoth cyclathon – this very generous donation was allocated to fund the purchase of additional lead gowns for Fitzpatrick Referrals Oncology and Soft Tissue.
